A filmmaker from Eastleigh is looking forward to seeing his films on the big screen this week.
On Thursday, January 5, three of Anas Sfagsi’s short films will be shown at Harbour Lights Picture House in Southampton.
The former Crestwood Community School, who studied media production at Barton Peveril, before attending Bournemouth University to study film and television, has always had a passion for filmmaking.
“I grew up with a constant passion for making films, from filming on my nintendo 2DS to now DSLR cameras,” he said.
“Once college ended I was concerned about my path so I took a gap year. Every time I went to the cinema I thought about how one day it would be amazing to have my own films on the big screen but then I questioned what’s stopping me? So I spent a lot of time making the films and figuring out how I was going to create such an event.”
He added: “ The emotions and escapism you experience at the cinema can’t be beaten, that’s why I’ve always known I would be a film director. It’s a privilege to be able to have such an emotional effect on people. As a young, Muslim filmmaker, I have the forum to entertain and enchant, but also to provide a different voice that challenges prejudice and stereotypes.”
Over the last year, Anas has made more than ten short films, once of which was selected to feature in an international film festival in Dubai.
The films to be screened are sci-fi/western No Morals, set in the year 2112, horror Ronnie Rat, which comments on the exploitation of women in the film industry, and comedy Fast Food, featuring a high-speed chase between rival delivery companies.
