Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.
On Sunday there will be a Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil at the Peace Fountain, East Park, Southampton.
At the event the names of those lost this year will be read in in remembrance.
An organiser said: “This event is open to all. We encourage our cisgender allies to show solidarity by attending – this vigil can be hardest for the members of the trans community most directly affected by violence toward trans people and support means a lot.”
Afterwards, The Art House will be holding a poetry open mic. Due to limited space, they ask you to book a ticket.
The organisers ask people to please remember that Covid is still a risk to people and to please allow for social distancing.
Meet at the fountain from 6.45pm, with the names being read from 7pm For those who wish to meet in a less public/outdoor space, you can meet at The Art House from 6.30pm.
Attendees are advised to remember to dress warmly and for possible wet weather, and to take a folding chair if you are unable to stand for the whole vigil. There will be candles, or you can take your own if you wish.
