Southampton Keep Our NHS Public brings film screening and discussion panel to city

Southampton Keep Our NHS Public is hosting a public event with a short, local history film and an audience discussion led by a panel of experts next month.

The event will be held on Friday 11th October from 7pm to 8.30pm at City Eye, 142 144 Above Bar Street Southampton.

A spokesperson for the event said: “A national survey from the British Medical Journal notes a 20% fall in the number of GP practices between 2013 and 2023, and between September 2020 and April 2023 only half of recorded appointments were provided by GPs.”

The event will begin with a 6 minute film made in 2020 by film and tv students at Solent University. It features a local GP, Dr Reynolds talking about how the workhouse used to be in St Mary’s Road, next to City College, before the NHS came into existence in 1945.

Dr Reynolds is one of the events panelists. The other is Brenda Allan from national KONP.

This is a free event but seating is limited. Reserve a seat by calling 07748204400 or clicking here.

Southampton Keep Our NHS Public will also be holding street stalls on September 28th and October 3rd outside the Waterstones entrance to WestQuay.
