Preview: The Pirates of Penzance, Theatre Royal Winchester

Theatre fans will be pleased to learn that Sasha Regan’s all-male cast returns to the city with her award-winning rendition of The Pirates of Penzance, which will be performed at Theatre Royal Winchester from Tuesday 8 October.

The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan is a classic operetta about a young man who is apprenticed to a band of tender-hearted, orphaned pirates and whose plans to marry come a cropper when it is discovered he was born on 29 February so won’t come of age until he is 84!

This modern take on the favourite that has received four-star ratings, and been described as ‘hitting that perfect tone between silliness and sentimentality’, is brought to the stage by Regan De Wynter Williams Productions and directed by Sasha Regan who won the Special Achievement Award at the Off-West End awards for her contribution to musical theatre and whose productions have been winning awards and selling out venues globally for years.

This internationally-acclaimed production – also described as ‘pure joy’ and ‘a delight from start to finish’– was originally staged in Southwark, London, winning Best Off-West End Production, before touring London and Australia.

Regan De Wynter Williams Productions return to the Winchester stage after performing at the theatre previously with Regan’s all-male renditions of The Mikado and H.M.S Pinafore.

Pirates of Penzance will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Tuesday 08 – Saturday 12 October at various times. For more information or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
