Southampton’s heritage steamship SS Shieldhall is staging a ‘Heritage Open Days’ sailing on Saturday 14 September between 4pm – 6pm. This offers a chance to explore Shieldhall – a member of the National Historic Fleet – on a shorter cruise around the Southampton Docks, with special prices of £29 adults; £8 children aged 3-15 and a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) £66.
Shieldhall’s last public sailing takes place the following day on Sunday 15 September, and will see Shieldhall pass the assembled yachts moored close to Mayflower Park as part of the 2024 Southampton Boat Show. This will be the last opportunity to visit the Engine Room, Boiler Room, Bridge and F’ocsle before Shieldhall is ‘put to bed’ for the winter.
The Boat Show cruise will see also see Shieldhall pass five cruise ships in Port en route to the Solent, including Arvia; Disney Dream; Norwegian Prima, Sky Princess and Queen Mary 2 before a return trip down Southampton Water. Staged between 2.30pm – 6pm, tickets are £44 adults and £16 children, or £104 for a family bundle ticket (2A + 2C).
The weekend marks the end of a very busy season for Shieldhall, which included sell-out trips to see the maiden departure of Cunard’s Queen Anne and to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, plus first-time cruises up the lower reaches of the Isle of Wight’s Medina River. Following the Boat Show cruise, Shieldhall will return to Berth 110 in the Western Docks, ahead of hosting part of the ‘Music in the City’ event on Sat 28th September.
