Art on the House on display at Southampton’s Art House

As reported in In Common back in February Southampton cultural stalwart The Art House has been working on one last huge collaborative artwork before they leave their base at 178 Above Bar Street to become a pop-up provider of “happenings”.

The piece – assembled by local multi-media artist Nicola Beck – is now complete and on display on the windows of the much loved venue, already drawing a great deal of interest from passersby.

“I’m really pleased with it,” said Nicola “I think it’s really captured the magic of what this venue has nurtured over the last 15 years – the essence of the people who have performed in the space and have enjoyed the spirit of creativity and inclusivity that has been fostered here.”

Art House director Jez Franck added “going through the photos really brought home the number of people who have made the Art House happen and the massive collective effort it has been to make the Art House what it has been for the last 15 years. I love this piece, it represents what we’ve been about so perfectly.”

The piece will be on display until March 24th when the Art House crew will close the shutters for the final time and is well worth a visit if you’re in town.
