A peace protest for Palestine will be held in Southampton on Sunday (November 14).
The event is organised by Palestine Solidarity Campaign Southampton and the Muslim Council of Southampton.
Unlike recent vigils in Southampton which have seen protesters gathering outside the civic centre, those taking part in Sunday’s protest will be marching through the city centre.
The protest calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Israel declared war on Hamas on 7 October, after fighters broke through a border fence into Israel and brutally killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians. Since then Israel has carried out an unprecedented number of airstrikes on Gaza, as well as blockading it and forcing tens of thousands of people to leave their homes. Some 10,000 civilians in Gaza have been killed, with on average more than 100 children being killed every day.
Protesters will be gathering close to Southampton’s Bargate from 2pm, marching through the city centre at 2.30pm, to the Peace Fountain in East Park, where there will be guest speakers. The event is expected to end at 4.30pm.
This will be after the city’s remembrance parade and service, which will take place on Sunday morning.
