The story of a showman offering hope and salvation, Faith Healer, comes to Theatre Royal Winchester from Tuesday 14 November.
Faith Healer tells of a man called Frank Hardy who promises to heal the afflicted. During the 1950s and 60s, he and his wife, Grace, and manager, Teddy, travel around Scotland and Wales seeing the sick, the suffering and the desperate all seeking a cure.
Promised ‘a performance, the trio bring them an unpredictable mix of theatricality and the spiritual.
Described as ‘deliciously dark’ and ‘an intense and absorbing experience’ by Stage Talk Magazine, the stories of the three main characters are woven together through four enthralling monologues, which take the audience on a journey of shifting perspectives and uncertain memories.
Faith Healer is by the late, award-winning Irish playwright and author, Brian Friel, who is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s greatest dramatists and wrote over 30 plays over six decades including Translations, Philadelphia, Here I Come! and Dancing at Lughnasa, which was later made into a film starring Meryl Streep.
Faith Healer is brought to the stage by London Classic Theatre touring company, whose recent productions include Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land, Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, Marc Camoletti’s Boeing Boeing and Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party, which premiered at the theatre earlier this year.
