Preview: Yippee Ki Yay, Theatre Royal Winchester

Fans of the classic action movie, Die Hard, can enjoy an acclaimed retelling of the story when Yippee Ki Yay comes to Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 20 September.

Yippee Ki Yay, The Die Hard Parody recalls the story from the 1988 film – when gunmen seize an LA skyscraper, off-duty policeman John McClane is the hostages’ only hope.

It was recently nominated for an OffFest – an award given to short run shows presented during a festival, presented by the Offies, which celebrate independent, alternative, fringe theatres.

The show is written and performed by Richard Marsh – a BBC Audio Drama Best Scripted Comedy Drama award winner, London poetry slam champion and Fringe First winner. His work has been commissioned by Radio 4, performed across the West End and in New York, at the Edinburgh Fringe and on tour.

It is directed by Hal Chambers, who directed Rabble Theatre’s Henry I, which was recently performed at The Great Hall in Winchester. It is brought to the stage by Seabright Productions, which has toured countless shows around the UK and internationally – including Black is The Colour of My Voice, Buffy Revamped, Trainspotting Live and junior doctor Adam Kay’s show, This Is Going To Hurt Live.

Yippee Ki Yay is on tour following rave reviews for its premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe. An uplifting romp and unauthorised parody, which features divorce, foot trauma and German terrorists, Yippee Ki Yay pays tribute to an iconic 1980s festive favourite.

Yippee Ki Yay will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 20 September at 7.30pm. Recommended age: 14+. For more information or to book tickets visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
