Preview: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Theatre Royal Winchester

Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is given a rambunctious twist when it comes to Theatre Royal Winchester from Tuesday 13 June.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream famously tells the story of four Athenian lovers, a group of amateur actors rehearsing a play, and a spat between the King and Queen of the Faeries, with goblins and sprites running amok causing havoc with the humans that get caught up in their plots and scheming.

This interpretation, which combines respect for the text with an irreverent attitude and a focus on storytelling, is brought to the stage by the award-winning theatre company, Flabbergast Theatre, conceived in 2010 and who incorporate physical comedy, physical theatre, dance, clowning, circus arts and puppetry into their performances.

Flabbergast Theatre are set to return to Winchester following their performance of Macbeth last year and bring alive the magic of midsummer with physical comedy, folk song, dance and an expert use of European theatre arts.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 June at various times.  For more information or to book tickets visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
