Preview: NT Live: Best of Enemies, Theatre Royal Winchester

Theatre Royal Winchester will host another National Theatre Live cinema screening – the political thriller, Best of Enemies, on Monday 5 June.

Best of Enemies tells of two feuding political rivals in late 1960’s America.

As two men fight to become the next president, a new nightly TV format sees the cunningly conservative, William F Buckley Jr., and the unruly liberal, Gore Vidal, debate the moral landscape of a shattered nation – with beliefs challenged and slurs slung.

The multi-award winning new drama is by playwright and screenwriter, James Graham, whose TV credits include crime drama Sherwood and Quiz, telling the story of the couple who cheated their way to win Who Wants to be a Millionaire?.

Best of Enemies is directed by the award-winning Jeremy Herrin, who has worked in theatres across London and the UK – it is inspired by the documentary by Morgan Neville and Robert Gordon, and stars actors David Harewood and Zachary Quinto.

Early this year the Winchester theatre announced it would host a number of screenings of filmed performances of National Theatre productions – filmed across London’s West End, already audiences have enjoyed The Crucible, Othello, and Life of Pi.

Plus, coming up from NT Live is Fleabag on Friday 16 Jun, and Sing-a-Long-a screenings of Encanto and The Greatest Showman on Saturday 17 June – with the lyrics on the screen so that the audience can join in with the songs as each film plays.

Tickets for NT Live cost £16 each, with discounted rates for Members and Concessions.
