A candlelit vigil will be held in Southampton on Friday, February 24, to mark one year of war in Ukraine.
People are invited to meet at the city’s Bargate at 6.30pm before walking through the city to the Peace Fountain in East (Andrews) Park, where there will be a candlelit vigil at 7pm. Attendees are invited to bring a candle in a holder or a lantern. Prayers in Ukrainian and English will be read at the fountain.
Floral tributes will be laid in memory of those whose lives have been lost in the conflict. Attendees are encouraged to wear black though organisers stress that this is not essential. They ask that no banners be brought to the event and emphasise that it is a peace vigil, not a demonstration.
From 8pm there will be a prayer service at Above Bar Church, 69 Above Bar Street, Southampton.
