On Saturday, 26th April, a peaceful protest will take place in Southampton in support of the trans community.
This is following not only the recent Supreme Court ruling, but the resulting fallout in which we have heard that the British Transport Police may start having trans women strictly strip searched by male officers, among over possible changes (such as in the NHS guidance on which wards trans people will be treated).
Trans Pride Southampton asserts that harm to trans women, affects all women. It is inevitable that cisgender women, if they were to be mistaken as trans, will also face this same humiliation – and in the instance of only being strip searched by a male, a potentially traumatic fate that we have seen in the media since the court ruling.
Allies are welcome to attend as we take to the streets, to affirm that Southampton is a safe place for trans people.
The protest march begins at 11:00 at Town Quay Park and marching through the High Street and Above Bar Street to Watts Park. Where we will have speeches.
Please find and follow Trans Pride Southampton on Meta and Bluesky for more updates, as details are subject to change.
