Treacherous Cretins bring the music of Frank Zappa to The Broon, Southampton, next month

Treacherous Cretins, the UK band celebrating the iconic music of Frank Zappa, has announced a performance at The Brook in Southampton featuring the legendary Robert ‘Bobby’ Martin on 20th April 2025.

Following a successful UK tour last year with ex-Zappa lead vocalist/keyboardist/saxophonist/French hornist Robert Martin, Treacherous Cretins are set to be joined by Robert once again in April 2025 for a 12-show long tour of the UK and Ireland.

Audiences can expect an unforgettable evening filled with Zappa’s beloved songs, mind-bending instrumentals, and humorous lyrical genius. From the intricate arrangements of “Peaches En Regalia” to the scorching guitar solos of “Inca Roads,” Treacherous Cretins and Robert Martin will deliver an authentic and electrifying tribute to one of music’s most innovative minds.

Zappa was a musical iconoclast – known for his “hard-to-play!” musical material, humorous and satirical lyrics, and fusion of musical styles. In recent years, Zappa has been receiving increased levels of recognition, with the production of a critically acclaimed feature length documentary – “Zappa” – by filmmaker Alex Winter in 2020; being the focus of a “Total Immersion Day” at the The Barbican Centre in London in 2022; and new bands emerging that play his music to crowds of enthusiastic fans!

Frank Zappa’s music is so important to so many people, yet they get to hear it performed live so infrequently. Treacherous Cretins’ aim is to keep Zappa’s legacy alive, introduce his music to new generations of fans, and have fun doing it! They agree with Zappa’s simple, but now iconic quote: “Music is the best!”

After Robert ‘Bobby’ Martin joined Frank Zappa’s band in 1981, he performed on all of Frank’s tours and live albums from that time on. In between tours with Zappa, Robert worked with other musical greats, including Michael McDonald, Stevie Nicks, The Moody Blues, Etta James, and more. Robert is also a member of The Zappa Band and Banned From Utopia, regularly playing alongside other ex-Zappa band members.

Treacherous Cretins is a UK based band formed in 2018 that strives to represent a broad spectrum of Frank Zappa’s music and expose the music to new fans.  The band are known for their exceptional musicianship and unwavering commitment to Zappa’s repertoire, have earned a dedicated following over the years. With their extraordinary attention to detail, they bring Zappa’s complex compositions to life, capturing the essence of his unique musical vision.

The band members have played and collaborated with the likes of Dweezil Zappa, Ike Willis, Ray White, Denny Walley, Craig “Twister” Steward, Candy Zappa and more. In 2019, they played the opening slot at the 30th Anniversary Zappanale Festival in Bad Doberan, Germany: a yearly festival dedicated to Zappa’s music and other progressive music which draws thousands of fans from all around the world.  They will be returning to Zappanale in July 2025 alongside Robert Martin.
