Review: …Earnest? MAST Mayflower Studios

By Lewis MacLean. Image: Mark Senior.

The Importance of Being Ernest is a play by Oscar Wilde. The similarities kind of end there.

To describe this play entirely could potentially ruin it, so you simply need to see it for yourself.

Those who like live theatre will love it. Those who hate live theatre will love it.

Honesty, I took my Dad for his birthday last year and for the first 5 minutes, his face dropped when he realised it was an Oscar Wilde play (read that review here).

Then after the next 10 minutes, he smiled when he realised it wasn’t!

I’ve seen it three times now and it’s different each time.

It’s a great ingenious play by a great ingenious theatre company that is going to get larger than life, so see it now while you can. It’s a great step towards reviving live theatre for the reality TV generation. Fans of Gogglebox will love it!

It’s showing this Friday and Saturday so Southampton show some love and nip down to MAST Theatre at Guildhall Square.

Tickets for …Earnest? (7-9 March) are on sale at mayflowerstudios.org.uk or 02380 711811.
