Crowdfunder set up to support Southampton vegan cafe after break in

A popular blogger – The Bearded Vegan – has set up a crowdfunder to support Southampton’s Cafe Thrive.

The popular Southampton city centre vegan cafe shared a social media post this morning (28/2/25) sharing that last night their front door was smashed and staff tip jar was stolen.

They encouraged patrons to come in for take-away today, or to wrap up warm if planning on eating in as the door may not be fixed.

They said: “We’ll be brutally honest and tell you we can’t afford to not be open for a few days so for now we’ll be here as usual albeit without a door!”

They thanked nearby bar and music venue Heartbreakers for ‘having our backs’ and added: “It’s brutal right now for small independents – thank you all for supporting us.”

The Bearded Vegan, who has more than 17,000 followers on Facebook, set up the crowdfunder on JustGiving this morning, to help support the cafe.

He said: “Like many other small vegan businesses, they simply can’t afford to close for the day until this is fixed, so I’m asking you beautiful people if you can donate to help get them back on their feet quickly after this terrible incident.”

He has set the modest target of £250. At the time of writing, within an hour of the fundraiser being launched, the target had already been exceeded, with more than £300 be.
