Peace Protest: “From Southampton to Palestine, we are the red line!”

By Charlotte Ndupuechi.

A Peace Protest for Palestine took place today (22/2/25)  in the centre of Southampton organised by the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (PSC).

The Southampton branch of PSC was joined by Bournemouth Palestine Solidarity Movement who brought their long Red Line – a lengthy strip of red fabric, up to half a kilometre long – to the city-centre protest.

People from across Southampton and beyond gathered in Guildhall Square and walked through the city in a peaceful protest,  joining together in carrying a red line. It was a visually powerful way to show solidarity for the suffering of the people Palestine and call to peace and stability for the region.

Most onlookers were supportive, but unfortunately there were quite a few racist comments shouted out, and a bottle was thrown in the direction of the protesters.

More than 47,000 people have died in Gaza, and a further 1,004 in the West Bank, mostly civilians.

The ceasefire is fragile, it has yet to result in a complete end to hostilities, with over 100 Palestinians reportedly killed and 800 injured by Israeli forces since 19 January.
