Local people from in and around Winchester who are interested in performing at this year’s Hat Fair – the UK’s longest running festival of Outdoor Arts – can now apply to take part.
Singers, musicians, comics, choirs, dance troupes and others with a short performance piece they would like to showcase at the festival, which takes place across Winchester city centre, can now apply to perform at the event that will be held on Saturday 5 July.
This is a fantastic opportunity for local people to be a part of a festival programme packed with incredible street theatre performers or Hatters as they are known by the festival and so called after the tradition of laying down a hat to collect donations following a performance.
The closing date for applications is Tuesday 11 March 2025 – with more information and the online application form available at playmakers.org.uk.. Applicants should note that this is an unpaid performance opportunity and they will not be able to collect money at their performance.
Hannah Jones, Engagement Producer for Playmakers – the creative learning and community engagement branch of Play to the Crowd, the charity that runs Hat Fair, plus Theatre Royal Winchester – said: “We are really excited for this year’s Hat Fair Local Talent! It’s always amazing to see the incredible performers from our community take the stage, sharing their unique skills, creativity, and passion. From musicians and dancers to spoken word, this event truly highlights the diverse talent we have right here in Winchester.”
