Fans of gothic horror are invited to an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic novel, Dracula, at Theatre Royal Winchester from Monday 3 March.
Set in London, across provincial England, and the mountains of Transylvania in 1897, Dracula tells the story of a group of young men and women, led by Professor Van Helsing, who face a struggle for survival when met with the unknown.
It is a time when mankind is on the cusp of technological change, but stuck between society’s traditional beliefs and the shock of a new world, an even darker fear emerges. Bram Stoker’s timeless thriller explores resisting temptation, breaking taboos and attempting to stop the unknown.
The production is brought to the stage by Blackeyed Theatre who were established in 2004 and have toured the UK from Eastbourne to Dundee with shows including Sherlock Holmes and the Valley of Fear and the award-nominated, Oh What A Lovely War, Frankenstein and Teechers Leavers ’22.
This production of Dracula has been adapted by Nick Lane who is also an actor, director and children’s playwright; blends Victorian Gothic with the contemporary; showcases the theatre company’s trademark ensemble performance style, and features a haunting soundscape and innovative design.
The Stage newspaper described the production as an ‘absorbing, atmospheric retelling’ of this 19th century horror.
Dracula will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Monday 03 March – Wednesday 05 March at various times. Recommended age: 12+ (contains scenes depicting threat and stylised violence).
