Folk fans are invited to start the new year with new faces and old of the genre when The Ciderhouse Rebellion and Reg Meuross come to Theatre Royal Winchester next month.
The Ciderhouse Rebellion (Saturday 11 January) welcomes to the stage musicians Adam Summerhayes and Murray Grainger who are known for creating magical in-the-moment music.
Described as profound, haunting and dramatic, the pair – who play the violin and accordion, respectively – produce music on the spot while being inspired by traditional tunes and their own compositions. Summerhayes and Grainger are renowned for their unique improvisatory focus; searching for the unexpected and the possibility of creating a narrative that will transport their audience.
Winners of Best Instrumental Album 2022, Summerhayes and Grainger are world touring professional artists in their own right who only began working together in 2020 but have already released four celebrated albums, featured on Radio 4 and performed at festivals across the UK and Europe.
Next, the award-winning Reg Meuross (Thursday 16 January) presents his new song-cycle Fire & Dust – commissioned by The Who legend, Pete Townshend and delving into the life of Woody Guthrie – one of America’s finest folk musicians, highlighting racism, bigotry and corruption.
Meuross represents the best in contemporary English folk writing, winning over audiences around the world with his tenor voice and the depth of his material – sharing stories that need to be told, struggles, injustices and more. He accompanies himself with a six-string guitar, harmonica, tenor guitar, banjo and dulcimer.
As part of his show, Meuross is also touring songs from his extensive back catalogue, made up of 15 critically-acclaimed albums.
Audiences can enjoy discounted tickets when they book for both shows as part of a multibuy offer.
The Ciderhouse Rebellion will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Saturday 11 January 2025 at 7.30pm, Reg Meuross on Thursday 16 January 2025 at 7.30pm. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
