Antony Knight, from Southampton, is one of the stars of a film from a Portsmouth-based production team, Apple Park Films, currently streaming on Prime Video.
Knight stars alongside Holly McLachlan, and Joseph Adelakun, in The Mire. The film is set on the eve of a mass suicide as charismatic cult leader, Joseph Layton attempts to convince his two most loyal followers that he intends to go through with the cult’s plans. A battle of wits ensues across one evening as all three parties attempt to manipulate, reform, and out-plot the others.
Director Adam Nelson said on the film’s release, earlier this year: “I’m so excited to finally announce the release of The Mire on streaming platforms, especially Prime Video, where the people who have followed us on our near four year journey will get to see the finished product.”
The Mire is a co-production between Apple Park Films, Familiar Stranger Studios, Jake Earwaker Films, and The Dazey Hills company. It was produced under Apple Park Films’ localised production scheme, which requires films to use cast and crew who live and or have strong ties to the Portsmouth region. The film was shot at the Kings Church, in Somers Town and features locations from the wider Portsmouth area. The film hosted its world premiere at Portsmouth’s No6 Cinema in February 2023, where it played to a sell out crowd.
Holly McLachlan, one of the film’s stars, said: “I’m thrilled to finally be able to share our work with the world. It’s a beautiful representation of what can be achieved, with restraints on time and budget, when everyone involved is focused and committed to their craft. It was such a pleasure to make and I hope everyone who watches The Mire can see that.”
