Southampton Stand Up To Racism counter demo to be held on Tuesday

Southampton Stand Up To Racism is organising a counter demonstration on Tuesday (10/12/24) in response to a planned visit to the city by the interim leader of UKIP, Nick Tenconi.

Tenconi has been interim leader of UKIP since 2024 and is also leader of right-wing pressure group Turning Point UK. He describes himself as a ‘defender of Christianity and conservative values’.

On social media his posts include statements such as “we will take our country back,” and he describes rioter Peter Lynch as “a true British hero.”

The Southampton event is described on UKIP social media as part of the ‘official UKIP pub tour,’ and is set to take place on Tuesday evening.

The location of Tenconi’s speech in Southampton has yet to be announced.

Southampton Stand Up To Racism ask their supporters to follow their social media channels to find out the location of the counter demonstration, which will be from 6pm. The organisation will also be asking supporters to call on the venue hosting the event to cancel the booking.
