On Friday 11th November at 6.30pm, October Books will be hosting a talk with renowned historian Alice Hunt.
Hunt will be discussing her new book Republic: Britain’s Revolutionary Decade 1649-1660 with Professor Mark Stoyle of the University of Southampton.
Despite spanning only ten years, the 1650s was an incredibly eventful period of British history in which the monarchy and House of Lords was replaced by the infamous Oliver Cromwell. Hunt’s exciting new book focuses on this turbulent time, exploring this gripping and compelling narrative, not only with historical accuracy but reanimating stories from hundreds of years ago in a captivating manner. Published by Faber & Faber and with research supported by a Leverhulme Research Fellowship, the book promises to be a great read for those interested in history.
An associate Professor in Early Modern Literature and Culture at the University of Southampton herself, Alice Hunt’s research interests cover the period of the English republic; early modern monarchy; ritual and ceremony; queenship; modern monarchy and the Caribbean. She has been at the University of Southampton since 2006 and teaches a variety of modules including Queens, Devils and Players in Early Modern England and New Approaches to Shakespeare. Clearly, an expert with a wealth of knowledge to share. This is one event you won’t want to miss out on.
Tickets for the event cost £5 with the price being deducted from any book purchases made on the evening. There will also be an opportunity for an audience Q&A as well as a signing. With a glass of free wine to top it all off, it looks to be a great way to spend your Friday night.
