The world’s best-loved musical, Grease, is back at Mayflower Theatre from Tuesday 29 October to Saturday 2 November 2024.

After a whirlwind summer romance, leather-clad greaser Danny and girl-next-door Sandy are unexpectedly reunited when she transfers to Rydell High for senior year. But can they survive the trials and tribulations of teenage life and find true love once more?

With its phenomenal score, bursting with hits including Summer NightsGreased Lightnin’Hopelessly Devoted to You and You’re the One That I Want, this thrilling new version is brought to life by a fresh young cast who bring energy, vitality and passion to this ultimate musical classic.

Grease originally opened in Chicago in 1971, followed by a move to Broadway in 1972, where it received seven Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Musical. During the show’s eight-year run at the time, little known actors including Peter Gallagher, Patrick Swayze and John Travolta all appeared in the production, with Richard Gere understudying many roles before going on to star as Danny Zuko in the 1973 London premiere.

The 1978 film adaptation starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John is the fourth highest-grossing live action musical of all time.

This production is produced by Colin Ingram for InTheatre Productions, Frankel/Viertel/Baruch/Routh Group, Playing Field and Curve.

And as Grease hits the road, director Nikolai Foster promises: “It has all the moments you love from the film and the original but with some extra grit, guts, gravitas and spice!

“Audiences are in for an electrifying night of explosive choreography and incredible songs as they witness the raw talent of the greatest young performers working onstage today.”

It boasts a diverse cast, with Nikolai explaining: “As with all our work at Curve, we want to ensure the work on our stages celebrates and reflects our diverse nation. It’s so important we see aspects of our own identity represented and one of the privileges of working on this production is that our casting has always celebrated the very best in new talent coming into the theatre.”

Heading the cast for the tour are Marley Fenton as Danny and Hope Dawe as Sandy. They’re thrilled to be playing such iconic characters, with Marley saying: “It’s such an iconic show and such an iconic love story, so for us it’s about paying homage to a classic.”
