Fans of The Gruffalo can celebrate 25 years of the popular children’s book with a live stage adaptation at Theatre Royal Winchester from Saturday 19 to Monday 21 October 2024.
The Gruffalo tells the story of Mouse who goes searching for hazelnuts in the deep dark woods and meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the high-spirited Snake – all who want Mouse for their dinner!But will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save Mouse from such a fate? Is there even such a thing as a Gruffalo?
Described as ‘the perfect intro to theatre for kids’ by The Londonist, this musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler is brought to the stage by Tall Stories theatre company who were founded in 1997, have played in the West End and on Broadway, and whose productions include adaptations of Donaldson’s The Smeds and The Smoos and Room on the Broom, and David Mckee’s stories with The Elmer Adventure.
On Saturday 19 October at 3.30pm there will be a touch tour allowing audience members the chance to visit the set of The Gruffalo and feel the props to familiarise themselves ahead of the show; while at 4.30pm there will be a relaxed performance, providing a supportive environment to enjoy the show in.
