Ballet audiences are invited to take their seats for an award-winning adaptation when Romeo a Juliet comes to Theatre Royal Winchester on Thursday 17 October.
An extraordinary retelling of the Shakespeare classic about two feuding families and pair of star-crossed lovers, Romeo a Juliet features dramatic choreography, exquisite costumes and video projections that create a world of danger and excitement for the young lovers.
Romeo a Juliet– which has won Best Large-Scale Dance Production multiple times at the Wales Theatre Awards – is presented by the Critics’ Circle award-winning international touring classical ballet company, Ballet Cymru – based in Wales and committed to inclusion and innovation in dance and classical ballet – with an extensive access and outreach programme that works to break down barriers to accessing the arts.
Ballet Cymru’s previous productions include Dream – based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Roald Dahl: Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs; and an adaptation of Cinderella, which combines circus elements with classical dance.
Romeo a Juliet features choreography from the ballet company’s directors, Darius James OBE and Amy Doughty – with costumes by Georg Meyer-Wiel who has created costumes for some of the world’s leading companies including Rambert Dance Company.
