Theatre audiences are invited to a performance inspired by Milton’s poem, with Paradise Lost (lies unopened beside me) at Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 16 October.
Paradise Lost (lies unopened beside me) is a retelling of the story of the beginning of everything, inspired by the epic poem by the English poet, John Milton – Paradise Lost.
The poem concerns the biblical story of Adam and Eve being expelled from the Garden of Eden – the first version of which was published in the 1600s. The adaptation explores the possibility that God made everything because he was terrified of doing nothing!
The show stars the Olivier Award nominee, Sharif Afifi, whose theatre credits include My Fair Lady (London Coliseum), Hadestown (National Theatre) and The Bands Visit (Donmar Warehouse). His TV and film credits include Lockerbie (BBC/Netflix) and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again!
It is brought to the stage by Lost Dog, which was formed in 2004 to create and tour shows combining theatre, text, dance, movement, comedy and music, and whose current productions also include adaptations of Romeo and Juliet and A Tale of Two Cities.
Paradise Lost (lies unopened beside me) is told through words, music and dance/physical movement and is described as a show for anyone who has created anything from a paper aeroplane to a garden or child and watched it spiral out of control.
Following the performance there will be a post-show chat.
The performance will also be captioned.
Paradise Lost (lies unopened beside me) will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 16 October at 7.30pm. Recommended age: 13+. For more information or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
