There are only a few days to go now until the biggest free music event ever! Well I’m probably exaggerating but it certainly feels that way with 1703 artists forming 302 acts to give 326 performances at 60 venues (you can tell I’ve been on the website!) And all in the space of two days, lunchtime Saturday 28th until evening Sunday 29th September.
I say free, but there is one venue that is charging a token fee of £5. But what a venue!! The Hythe Ferry is currently raising money to repair its pontoon and all proceeds will go to that cause. The normal service has been suspended for a while and it’s important that every effort is made to get this popular service back up and running. However the problem hasn’t stopped the creative, collaborative minds of those managing the ferry and those running Music in the City to come up with idea of a musical mini-cruise.
Departing from Town Quay every 30 minutes from 1.00 to 4.30pm on Saturday 28th, travellers will be entertained by buskers, rock and indie/folk music, and of course sea shanties. For only £5 it’s a chance to enjoy unique views of Southampton while being serenaded by committed and talented local artists.
Further details of who is playing on the Hythe Ferry and where to go can be found on their website, hytheferry.co.uk. You can also go to musicinthecity.org to find detail of this and all the other wonderful venues and acts that make up the event.
