Maskers Theatre – Murder in the Citizens’ Jury opens this week

Southampton amateur dramatics company The Maskers Theatre’s new play focuses on an issue which affects everyone.

Murder in the Citizens’ Jury was written by a local writer, D A Baden from Southampton University,  a professor of sustainable business and this is the premiere of her new play

‘Murder in the Citizens Jury’ addresses the burning question ‘how to save ourselves from the looming climate crisis.

Eight members made up from all walks of life sit to discuss important issues ‘in the Citizens Jury’.

They have been granted full legal powers and are discussing this most important challenge in the history of humanity . Exciting new solutions are proposed, each with their own champions and detractors.  What they decide will affect us all. But they all have their own issues to deal with, and one of them has a hidden agenda.

Who is the assassin and who are they there to kill and why?

This thought-provoking, entertaining and interactive new play also invites the audience to help the Director of Public Prosecutions with the moral dilemma of whether to prosecute the killer. If he does, it could spell the end of Citizens’ Juries which many believe are the magic bullet to help us make decisions that will avert climate change.

What will you decide?

The play is a shortened adaptation of the TV series ‘The Assassin’ which recently won ‘Writing Climate Pitchfest’ and is now under consideration by Hollywood producers!

This will be an entertaining Whodunnit with moral issues of the day at the forefront of the decisions in the new Citizens Jury – come along and watch it unfold!

Runs Tuesday 17th to Saturday 22nd September at Maskers Studio Theatre, off Emsworth Road, Shirley, Southampton. There is an extra performance on Sunday 23, at 4pm with a Q&A session with the writer.  The play will also be filmed at this time.
