Play to the Crowd invites teachers and lecturers to learn more

Play to the Crowd – the arts and education charity that runs Theatre Royal Winchester, Hat Fair and Playmakers – is inviting teachers and lecturers to two early evening events for them to learn more about the opportunities the charity can offer schools and colleges.

The events will include a talk from Play to the Crowd’s CEO, Deryck Newland, or Hat Fair and Playmakers Director, Andrew Loretto – with Engagement Producer, Hannah Jones, or Young People’s Producer, Shian Hunter – about who the charity is and what it can offer children and young people. There will also be insights into the shows coming up – aimed at primary school children, and secondary school and college aged students. Including The Chronicles of Atom & Luna, The Gruffalo and Do Not Play This Piano; Paradise Lost, Romeo a Juliet, and John Nichol’s The Unknown Warrior; plus, this year’s traditional family pantomime, Mother Goose, which is suitable for all ages.

School teachers will be given the opportunity to join a backstage tour of the theatre – with the charity’s Sales and Audience Experience Manager, Julie Roberts, introducing them to the facilities, accessibility and how to make a group booking for a show or tour. Plus, Hannah and Shian will give an introduction into the workshops on offer (including creative writing and performing arts-based workshops etc.) – with an optional workshop they can take part in on stage.

The events will take place at Theatre Royal Winchester – on Monday 23 September, from 4pm – 6.30pm (for primary school teachers) and Monday 30 September, from 4pm – 6pm (for secondary school teachers and college lecturers) – with tea and cake provided at each!

Teachers and lecturers interested in attending their respective event should RSVP by emailing julie@playtothecrowd.co.uk or calling 01962 840 440 by Monday 16 September (for primary school teachers) and Monday 23 September (for secondary school teachers and college lecturers). Teachers and lecturers are also invited to email Julie with a contact telephone number if they have any questions or wish to discuss anything further.
