Review: Southampton Pride, 2024

By Mabel Wellman.

On the 24th and 25th of August, Southampton Pride had their 8th annual namesake event.

Like previous years, Southampton Pride treated the city to a star studded line up.

The Pride event had a main stage and community stage to help provide entertainment to cater to as many people as possible.

On the Saturday, the weather did leave a lot to be desired. However, our city’s LGBTQIA+ Community and allies were in full force to lead a loud protest march through the city centre from Queen’s Park to Guildhall Square.

Many people that I spoke to did say on the Sunday they had only attended on that day on account of the weather.

This year was the first time Southampton Pride trialled a two day event, and as well as being great to have two whole days of Pride, it did help to make sure people could enjoy an drier Sunday if the bad weather on Saturday would have made people otherwise consider missing out on a year of Pride.

Southampton Pride have achieved having another hugely successful event. We cannot wait for 2025 and now they will continue to improve their event.
