Punks, pirates, and parrots: Totton pub hosts charity music event tomorrow

By Laura McCarthy.

The Peg & Parrot in Totton will be hosting Punkfest, a charity music event, on Saturday 10th August from 6pm in aid of Naomi House and Jacksplace.

Local pop punk cover band The Audio Pirates are set to perform an exciting set of alternative hits alongside three other bands.

Those who frequent The Peg & Parrot have likely seen The Audio Pirates play before, as the musical buccaneers are practically part of the furniture, covering everything from Nirvana to McFly, but their charity set boasts some different familiar favourites for pop punk fans too.

They will be supported by Bitter Self Exploitment, Mongo Pusher, and Adventure State. Formed in 2010, Bitter Self Exploitment are a four-piece punk rock band from Southampton. They’ve been around for a while and have frequented venues such as The Hobbit, performing their own songs.

Meanwhile the aptly named Mongo Pusher (which those in the know will recognise as a skateboarding term, referencing an uncommon way of skating) are set to cover a range of skate anthems, ska songs, punk, hardcore, and rock in their own unique style. The boys are from Portsmouth, all previously in punk band Napalm Radio.

Adventure State, formed from many members of The Audio Pirates, will be performing their first set as a new band, playing songs written by the pirate himself, Daniel Goodson. The music can best be described as a mix of Americana and “punkified” pop rock.

Punkfest will be expanding and hosting a larger range of original and cover bands as part of Music In The City at The London Road Brewhouse in September.
