Unity rally to be held in Southampton on Saturday

A unity rally, subtitled ‘stop the far right’ is being held in Southampton on Saturday (10/8/24).

It comes in the wake of right-wing extremism, racist hatred and acts of terror occurring across the country and follows a huge anti-racist counter demonstration on Wednesday, which saw hundreds of people from the city take to the streets of Southampton to stand (and sing) in opposition to what turned out to be a handful of far right protesters.

Saturday’s demonstration is organised by Southampton Stand Up To Racism and is part of a wider day of campaigning, with demonstrations of anti-racist solidarity being held in cities across the country.

A spokesperson for SSUTR said the event was open to all who oppose the far right, racism and Islamophobia.

The event begins at noon at The Bargate, and will feature an open mic, allowing those who wish to to address the event.
