How can we embrace a shared, positive narrative for Southampton? And how can we communicate and amplify this narrative to foster a sense of pride in our city and its people?
These are two of the questions that will be addressed at the latest RSA event, The Southampton Narrative and Civic Pride, taking place on Thursday, July 18th at Mettricks Guildhall, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
You are invited to join the event to help identify and create positive stories about our city and understand how these can be communicated and amplified through civic, media and community channels. Tickets are free and can be booked in advance.
Along the way attendees will hear from one of the city’s Port Welcome Ambassadors who will explain why they – and visitors – love our city. IN addition, Sally Churchward, founder and editor of In Common will discuss how the many positive stories of the city can be communicated effectively.
The RSA Empowered Communities event in June highlighted the importance of community organisations connecting and promoting themselves across our city and this event will give plenty of ideas for doing just that.
The RSA was founded 260 years ago. It has over 30,000 ‘fellows’ who share a passion for building a more resilient, regenerative future. Their focus areas are varied, but often involve bringing together diverse stakeholders to address specific challenges and influence policy. Recent high-profile interventions have included ‘The Future Of Work’ and more recently the ‘UK Urban Futures Commission’ which considered the central role of cities in building a sustainable future.
Following this session, the RSA will be authoring a point of view regarding the City’s narrative that will be shared with RSA Fellows, friends and local civic and community partners.
