Preview: National Theatre Live screening – Present Laughter, Theatre Royal Winchester

Actor Andrew Scott returns in another National Theatre Live screening – Present Laughter, at Theatre Royal Winchester on Tuesday 23 July.

Present Laughter tells of star actor, Garry Essendine, as he prepares to embark on an overseas tour – when his colourful life is in danger of spiralling out of control. Engulfed by an escalating identity crisis as his various relationships compete for his attention, Garry’s few remaining days at home are a chaotic whirlwind of sex, panic and soul-searching.

The screening of this multi award-winning production of Noel Coward’s provocative comedy was filmed live at The Old Vic in London during a sold out run in 2019.

A giddy and modern reflection on fame, desire and loneliness, it was directed by Matthew Warchus (Matilda The Musical) and features Andrew Scott (Vanya, All of Us Strangers, Fleabag), Sophie Thompson (Into the Woods, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Detectorists) and Indira Varma (The Seagull, Bride and Prejudice, Game of Thrones).

The screening of Present Laughter has a PG certification.

Present Laughter will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Tuesday 23 July at 7pm. Film rating: PG (parental guidance). For more information or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
