Quiz night set to raise funds for Southampton Mental Health Network

Quiz night set to raise funds for Southampton Mental Health Network

Quizzers are invited to sign-up for Southampton Mental Health Network’s charity Quiz & Supper Evening this July to be in with a chance of winning a whole host of prizes.

The Southampton City Council-supported charity, which is on a mission to help the city become mental health friendly, is hosting its event on July 23 at Board in the City CiC.

Chair of the charity’s Board of Trustees, Sue Hayward (pictured top right), who is also a Mental Health Educator and Trainer, explains: “Proceeds from our Quiz & Supper Evening will go towards us hosting a Friends, Family & Carers Event in the autumn for people who currently support someone with poor mental health, so they can find out what resources are available for them in our city. It will also let them know Southampton Mental Health Network exists and has a website where people can be signposted to find the help they might need.”

Southampton Mental Health Network aims to create welcoming spaces for discussion, be understanding and supportive of those living with mental health challenges, boost wellbeing and improve knowledge and awareness in the city.

Sue continues: “Friends, family & carers are a very important part of our network. We believe that our city has a lot to offer and not everyone is aware of what is available. We want people to come together in one, easily accessible, high profile, central place on the same day to find out more and we’ll be releasing further details on the who, what, where and when later in the summer.

Sue adds: “We’re inviting keen quizzers to get together in teams of a maximum of six and to book in and come along for an enjoyable evening of quizzing, while also helping us raise invaluable funds. If you do not have a team but would still like to take part, please let us know and we can introduce you to other attendees, so you can join together to make a team.

“The winning quiz team members will each take home a £5 CommuniBakes community bakery voucher and have the privilege of lifting our highly prized, and rather lovely, Southampton Mental Health Network trophy.

“Our quiz night is a great opportunity, not only to raise funds for our charity, but also to raise awareness for us and for our Friends, Family & Carers Event.

“We’re very grateful to our member Board in the City, which has given us the room hire for free and offered the food at cost. Our thanks, also, go to Nick Pritchard, our quiz master, and his ‘better than the usual’ quiz!”

Southampton Mental Health Network became publicly active in 2019 and, with more than 100 member organisations involved in its development, became a charity in September 2022.

Working together, these organisations want to make Southampton a mental health friendly city, ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion for all.

The network is supported by Southampton City Council.
