Preview: Houdini’s Great Escape, Theatre Royal Winchester

Theatre lovers and fans of physical comedy, chaos and magic can enjoy Houdini’s Great Escape coming to Theatre Royal Winchester from Thursday 22 February.

It tells the story of Houdini, the world’s greatest entertainer, whose death-defying escapology stunts have him on the cusp of a career-defining performance for King Edward until he discovers he has been framed for murder by a gang of criminals working with the chief of police.

Now, can he and wife Bess escape the plot and clear their names, and how is Houdini’s rival, The Superstar Spiritualist medium, involved?

A 39 Steps-esque thriller, Houdini’s Great Escape is brought to the stage by multi award-winning theatre company, New Old Friends (Crimes on Centre Court; Crimes, Camera, Action), who are known for their physical comedy, wit and touch of chaos on stage.

The play is performed by a cast of four playing multiple roles with a hard-working set.

Packed with the real magic of illusions, designed by TV’s own comedy magician, Pete Firman (The Magicians, BBC1), Houdini’s Great Escape will have audiences laughing and gasping at the magic of theatre.

Houdini’s Great Escape will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Thursday 22 – Saturday 24 February, evening shows at 7.30pm, plus a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. For more information or to book tickets visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
