Playmakers want to hear from local community groups interested in taking part in this summer’s Hat Fair Carnival.
The theme of the procession will be Look Back, Look Forwards, Look Up and will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hat Fair – the UK’s longest running festival of Outdoor Arts, which takes place in Winchester city centre across the first weekend of July each year.
The Carnival will take place on Friday 5 July 2024 at 6pm and will see groups parading in costumes based on the theme – reflecting on past Hat Fair acts, looking up at acrobats and aerial arts, and looking into a future with sustainable costumes and robotics.
Interested community groups will get the opportunity to receive training from the Isle of Wight based The New Carnival Company next month in basic costume making skills; backpack and additional costume making; and prototyping Carnival costumes – with group leaders receiving further support throughout the process from the Playmakers team.
Community groups should register their interest via the form on the Playmakers website by Friday 26 January 2024 – playmakers.org.uk.
This is an amazing opportunity for a limited number of groups. All ages welcome.
