Christmas? What’s that then? We’re on the brink of December and Southampton city centre is bedecked in all its festive glory. But quite frankly, we’ve got other things on our mind than the Big FC.
Speaking of FC’s – we’re going to start this week’s round up with a random shout out to Saints, who host Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon. Actually, it’s not that random at all. It’s a completely deliberate and rather neat segue into news about another Welsh favourite who will be in town on Saturday; Far From Saints (nothing to do with the football team) featuring Kelly Jones of Stereophonics will be rocking a packed crowd at the O2 Guildhall on Saturday night. Check for tickets.
There’s plenty more varied music action dotted around the city over the next week. The always captivating Alabama 3 are at the 1865 on Thursday night (they smashed it at Victorious earlier this year). There’s another fundraiser for the Platform Tavern, this time at the Dolphin Pub on Friday and 90’s indie-faves Starsailor will be at The Brook on Sunday.
If you’ve got the energy and are feeling nostalgic (which almost certainly means you don’t have the energy) Paul Oakenfold will ‘avin it large at The Engine Rooms on Saturday night. He’ll be topping quite the night at the venue, because directly preceding his set is none other than Black Grape with Shaun Ryder. Hold onto your bucket hats.
Next stop Theatreland.
The big panto arrives at The Theatre Royal Winchester in the shape of Cinderella, from Thursday through ‘til the New Year. Not to be outdone, you’ll find the English National Ballet production of the Nutcracker at the Mayflower, from Wednesday ‘til next Tuesday.
Remarkably we got through that with barely a hint of Christmas, but you know it won’t last.
