Audiences can enjoy a sensory treat when Triffids! comes to Theatre Royal Winchester on Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 October.
Based on John Wyndham’s classic cold war novel, The Day of the Triffids, this gig theatre adaptation is packed with music, sound, text and digital projection.
Music fans will be intrigued by the lesser known instruments used to create the live soundtrack – including the Moog electronic synthesizer, Theremin – an electronic instrument whose pitch is controlled by the performer’s movement around, but not touching, the instrument, Hammered Dulcimer – consisting of strings over a board, and even a Cactus!
Triffids! is brought to the stage by Platform 4 – an artist-led company that creates playful and unexpected worlds in which performers and participants can explore their creativity and the things that matter to them. For their musical piece, Invisible Music, which explores hearing loss, participants shared their personal experiences of the condition for the piece.
Platform 4 have worked with the likes of the National Theatre, the BBC, Southbank Centre, English folk band Bellowhead, and theatre companies Kneehigh and The Bone Ensemble.
A transcript of the text that features in Triffids! is available for the hearing impaired and can be downloaded from platform4.org.
The show has been created with the kind permission of the John Wyndham Estate and Paper Lion Ltd.
Triffids! is a Pick Your Price show meaning audiences can select a ticket price that works best for them – making a range of shows accessible. Ticket options start from £6.
Triffids! will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 October at various times. For more information or to book tickets visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
