Whether a child is looking forward to a week away from school or their older sibling or parent is looking for a break, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Theatre Royal Winchester this coming autumn half term holiday (Sat 21 – Sun 29 October).
The spooky season begins with the Spontaneous Potter gang creating, from scratch, improvised wizarding comedy shows based on audience suggestions alone! On Sunday 22 October there will be two shows –Spontaneous Potter Kidz for children aged 8+, at 2.30pm; with another show for audiences aged 16+, Spontaneous Potter, at 7.30pm.
Next, on Monday 23 October, younger audiences will be captivated by storyteller Danyah Miller’s enchanting performance of Michael Morpurgo’s I Believe In Unicorns – the story of a young boy called Tomas who hates school and reading until he meets the Unicorn Lady at his local library. Including a book swap moment – allowing audiences to take home with them a book – there will be two performances that day, at 11.30am and 2pm.
Horror fans should brace themselves for the must-see ghost story, Shock Horror, on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 October, each performance at 7.30pm. It tells the story of a horror fan who returns home to a haunted cinema. A show that journeys into childhood nightmares and being afraid of the dark, it combines live performance with illusion and film.
On Friday 27 October at 7.30pm, America’s Got Talent winner, ventriloquist, Paul Zerdin, returns to Winchester with his brand-new show, Puppetman and an array of puppets with modern-day likes and dislikes including ventriloquism, vegan food and America.
Audiences might also be interested in Winchester A Capella’s acapella renditions of popular songs from films and musicals in Wacappella on Saturday 21 October at 7.30pm; while congratulations to those who have secured tickets to the now sold out shows – An Evening with Michael Portillo on Thursday 26 October and Phil Wang: Wang In There, Baby on Saturday 28 October. Audience members still interested in these shows can be added to their waiting lists for returned tickets by contacting the Box Office on 01962 840440.
