An enchanting story is brought to life on the Theatre Royal Winchester stage in the shape of Michael Morpurgo’s I Believe In Unicorns on Monday 23 October.
I Believe In Unicorns is set in a library full of books that hold more than stories within their pages and is a tale about the power of books.
It features a brave young boy called Tomas who hates reading and school, but his world is turned upside down when he meets the Unicorn Lady in his local library and so begins his spellbinding journey.
The story is by the best-selling and prize-winning children’s author, Sir Michael Morpurgo, who has written over 150 books including War Horse and The Butterfly Lion.
It is told by the award-winning storyteller, performer and writer, Danyah Miler, who has adapted or written and starred in five solo storytelling shows including I Believe In Unicorns, which has been seen by 80,000 people worldwide, including by way of two West End seasons.
Miller has also worked on BBC radio, co-produced two West End musicals, and her adaptation of Astrid Lindgren’s Pippi Longstocking came to Theatre Royal Winchester in September.
This interactive, yet intimate, production, which won The Brighton Argus’ Angel Award for Artistic Excellence, is guaranteed to spark imagination in audiences young and old.
Before the show audience members are invited to bring to the show a favourite children’s book (aimed at readers aged 6 and over) to help make up part of the set at the beginning of the show. At the end the children will then be invited to swap their book for another – meaning they get to go home with a new story from the library/set. But this is not obligatory and there will be a few extra books available for those who cannot bring one with them.
