Marking 60 years of Oh What A Lovely War, one of the UK’s leading touring theatre companies is bringing the classic to Theatre Royal Winchester from Monday 16 October.

Oh What A Lovely War is a satirical attack on the military incompetence and disregard for human life that the First World War has come to represent.

It is a powerful and chilling reminder of man’s inhumanity to man and the atrocities of war that cost twenty million lives.

More than a century on from the Armistice, and six decades since it was originally developed by theatre director, Joan Littlewood, in 1963, this classic of modern theatre and epic musical is presented by Blackeyed Theatre – with over 12 years of experience touring shows across the UK, with past productions including adaptations of Teechers, Dracula, The Madness of George III and Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of Four.

Visually stunning and deeply moving, Oh What A Lovely War is a fusion of live music, movement, songs and sketches bringing to life the folly, farce and tragedy of the First World War and holding a mirror up to the world.

Oh What a Lovely War will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Monday 16 to Wednesday 18 October at various times. Recommended age: 11+. For more information or to book tickets visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
