After my interview with Caity Baser last month, ahead of her home-town show at Southampton’s Engine Rooms, I was keen to see if her energy and enthusiasm would extend to the performance in her stage show… It did, ten fold!
Caity was obviously really excited to play the gig in her home city, she burst onto stage like a fireball of energy.
The venue was full, and some of the audience had been queuing since early afternoon so they could get to the front. As soon as the show started, her fans sang along as if they’d always been part of the show. So many of the fans were holding sheets of paper saying “You made it Caity”. When I spoke to the fan who’d organised this before the show, she said she knew it would make Caity emotional. She was right. Caity was obviously moved by the gesture and it added to the special feel of the evening.
Caity certainly knows how to please her audience. In the afternoon she even took the time to go out and see the fans in the queue. She spoke with so many and made the day for many others who’d been there for hours.
The show was so well rehearsed, and with the huge talents of her guitarist Natsuma and her superb drummer Ollie Thacker she was expertly supported. Heavy and skilled drum beats were driving the songs, and amazing guitar solos became part of the performance. Caity revelled in the breaks between songs and chatted to the other musicians, and even went to chat to the front row of the crowd.
Edgy lyrics, powerful music, a supremely confident performance, and an energy that was totally mesmerising, Caity is one to watch. I have no doubt about that. Catch the show if you can!
