With humour, heart and countless timeless classics all performed live on stage, the Olivier Award-Winning comedy-drama from Jim Cartwright, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, is set to open at MAST Mayflower Studios from 23 to 26 March.
Directed by Bronagh Lagan, this bittersweet comedy features music from the greatest divas of all time including Edith Piaf, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Marilyn Monroe and Shirley Bassey.
Little Voice and Mari Hoff – mother and daughter central to the heart of this Northern fairy-tale, but as far apart in character as can be.
Left to her own devices, Little Voice starts to embody the famous divas she plays on repeat and becomes an overnight sensation, swapping the grey backstreets of Northern England for the bright lights of Hollywood and Broadway, all from the safety of her own bedroom.
When Mari starts dating small-time club owner Ray Say, Little Voice’s astonishing impersonations of her favourite singers are thrust into the spotlight.
Starring international YouTube sensation, Christina Bianco, in the title role, alongside Shobna Gulati (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Coronation Street and Dinnerladies) as Mari Hoff – The Rise and Fall of Little Voice explores the highs and the lows of small-town dreams, family rivalry and finding your voice in a noisy world.
Tickets for The Rise and Fall of Little Voice (23 – 26 March) are on sale at mayflowerstudios.org.uk or 02380 711811.
