Residents of St Denys, Southampton, are being asked to join in a spooktacular pumpkin carving event for Halloween. Kids, young and old are being encouraged to put up spooky artwork and pictures in front windows as well as carve pumpkins in time for Halloween. Anyone can join in by posting pictures of their achievements on the Facebook page – Front Gardens Plus – making St Denys greener before October 31. Prizes will be awarded in early November.
Front Gardens Plus is a community group encouraging residents to plant, sow, swap seeds, plants and tools and get involved in action days to help tackle pollution and green their neighbourhood to make St Denys a great place to live. No particular gardening knowledge is needed but plenty of enthusiasm has been demonstrated by residents getting involved in free bulb days, seed sharing and plant and seed giveaways, a sunflower competition and ‘adopt an unloved plot’. Free seedbombs, wildflower seed packs and sunflower seed packs have also been made and distributed to residents and local organisations.
